Four days immersed in the incredible wild nature of Slovenia. Small villages, endless forests and a surreal silence create the perfect habitat for the main European mammals, which find refuge and tranquility in these woods. Wolves, foxes, lynxes, wild cats and, above all, the brown bear, the undisputed king of these forests. With one of the highest densities in Europe, the brown bear population here is thriving, making Slovenia one of the best destinations for photographing this magnificent animal.
Among these forests there are small wooden huts, surrounded by greenery, where you can enjoy unique experiences. Join us to explore these areas and experience unforgettable moments.
Three nights in a double or triple room
Matthew Gaglio
It will be an experience of four days of nature photography with a professional photographer by your side. Six photo sessions from a hide, dedicated to observing bears and birds.
During these four days, we will explore different locations for sighting the European brown bear, in the ideal period when they are most active and when it is easier to spot the cubs. The bear's activity is mainly in the afternoon and for this reason we will use the mornings to photograph other interesting subjects, where we will have at our disposal huts with watering places dedicated to birds and small mammals.
The cabins, located in the heart of the forests but easily accessible on foot, make this route accessible to everyone. Slovenian forests are home to a wide variety of European mammals and birds. With a bit of luck, in addition to bears, for which the probability of sighting is almost 100%, we will be able to see and photograph dozens of species of birds and maybe other mammals.
Join us for this unforgettable photographic adventure.
We plan 6 photo sessions: 3 at dawn and 3 at dusk.
The sunset sessions will be dedicated to the brown bear, while the dawn sessions will be dedicated to the avifauna.
Plus, you'll have free access to a night shed illuminated to photograph small nocturnal mammals such as badgers, hedgehogs, martens and perhaps with a bit of luck, nocturnal birds of prey.
Why will we use sheds? Shed photography is the ideal method for capturing close-up images of wildlife without disturbing their natural routine.
The hides we will use have been specially designed to provide comfort during photography sessions and maximize spotting opportunities. We have adopted strategies to eliminate odors, acoustically isolate the environment and use special glass that also ensures visual insulation.
Inside the hides, we will be able to use photographic heads placed in pre-built housing.
The large side windows will allow us to observe the outside world without being seen from the outside. This means that in addition to taking photographs, we will be able to enjoy the natural spectacle just a few meters away.
You will stay in cozy accommodations located in a small village surrounded by the greenery of the Slovenian forests, with full board service. In the morning we will dedicate our time to the small bird watching huts located near the accommodation, where we can observe red squirrels, woodpeckers, dozens of species of passerines and, with a bit of luck, even foxes, roe deer and birds of prey.
Every afternoon we will move to reach the brown bear observation huts, hidden among ancient beech forests and imposing limestone formations, in an atmosphere of surreal silence. Thanks to priority access to the best locations, we will be able to maximize photographic opportunities, ensuring ideal conditions for sightings.
Find out how the days will unfold and what activities make up the tour
11.00 am: Hotel accommodation and all participants and presentation of the event and locations. Here the photographer will start with a discussion on the best photographic techniques to use in each hut, remaining available for each participant to find the best settings of your equipment in view of the dense photographic sessions scheduled.
12.30pm: Lunch at the hotel and transfer to the first photographic location. Here, after a few minutes of driving and a short walk in the forest (a few hundred meters), we will reach the first photographic hut.
Here we will show the sheds and the best set-up for positioning all the photographic equipment inside. Only two people will be allowed access to each hut.
The session will then continue until sunset (approximately 8.00 pm)
8.30pm: Dinner with the group and overnight stay.
6.30 am: breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the hut with watering. Here we will have the opportunity to photograph different species of birds including woodpeckers, passerines, shrikes, hawfinch and dozens of other species. In addition, with a bit of luck there will be the possibility of photographing squirrels, foxes and other small mammals.
At the end of the morning session (usually around 10.00/11.00 am) you return to the hotel and there will be a few free hours in which it will be possible to rest in view of the afternoon session. The professional photographer will be available for any technical questions and to observe the morning's shots.
1.00 pm: Lunch and move to a new location for the afternoon session. Here too, the same organizational dynamics in choosing the huts. The session will continue until sunset. (8:00 p.m.)
Dinner where it will be possible to relax and talk about the techniques and settings used. The professional photographer will be available for any questions or curiosities.
6.30 am: breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the hut with watering hole. Here we will have the opportunity to photograph different species of avifauna including woodpeckers, passerines, shrikes, hawfinches and dozens of other species. This itinerary offers a great experience from a photographic point of view, therefore any equipment is sufficient to take home excellent shots. Animals can be observed at all distances, therefore 70-200mm can already be enough to give satisfaction. Despite this, for portrait lovers the advice is to bring with you a focal length of at least 300mm. A medium tele and a wide angle can be useful if you are interested in photographing Slovenian landscapes and forests.
Think you don't have the right equipment for this event?
Don't worry, it is now possible to rent lenses and camera bodies for our events at a special price!
An interesting catalog of lenses and cameras is available to all customers, which can be booked and collected directly on site, without deposits or credit cards.

Consiglierei a chiunque di fare workshop con loro.JOAQUIN FUENTES05/02/2024Michele and Sharon were the best hosts a photographer could ask for. They are two of my heroes and are some of the best wildlife photographers in the world. This was the trip of a lifetime! We had luxury accommodations and 5 star meals daily. Each photographer had our own row in the vehicles. Highly recommend booking with Michele through his official website if you’re interested in any type of wildlife photography tour. We had all advanced photographers on our trip, but I understand that all levels are welcome to join. What a fun group and experience! Note that the all inclusive photography experience actually cost much less than what you would have to pay on your own! It would have cost around twice as much to reserve the rooms, transfers and private vehicle for a week. I’m really looking forward to my next tour with Michele and Sharon!Josef Gelernter04/02/2024It was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience ! Extremely well organized and managed !
