Destination

The Gran Paradiso National Park extends over 70,000 hectares of high mountain territory, between 800 meters of valley floor and 4,061 meters of Gran Paradiso. The park extends over 4 valleys and occupies two regions. It is the oldest national park in Italy, established on December 3, 1922.

From a naturalistic point of view, it is one of the most interesting parks in Italy, with well 68 species of vertebrates including 52 mammals and 101 nesting birds.Among these the most significant is undoubtedly the ibex, symbol of the park, but besides him it is also possible to observe the Alpine chamois, fox, mountain hare, stoat and in recent years also the wolf. Among the birds, it is worth highlighting the presence of thegolden eagle and of the bearded vulture.

From a photographic point of view the park has no equal. The breathtaking environment, in full Alpine style, offers wonderful views and details. The great density of animals greatly stimulates photographic creativity, giving us the opportunity to experience truly unforgettable moments. In winter the park is completely covered in snow and ice. A silent and wild park that each of us should know.

Learn more about your experience

The photo sessions will take place in best hours of the day, at dawn and dusk, moments when the light is softer and the fauna activity is more intense. We will work mainly with a itinerant, moving between the most iconic places of the Park and adapting the strategies to the sightings and environmental conditions, always accompanied by two professional photographers.

We will live an authentic and immersive experience, in full harmony with Alpine nature. The days will be dynamic and engaging, with practical sessions dedicated to both basic shooting techniques both to those more advanced, to learn how to manage composition, exposure on snow, use of long focal lengths and the search for creative and personal images.

As in every structured workshop, there will be a complete post-production session, during which we will analyze the shots taken in the field and delve into fundamental aspects such as noise reduction, contrast management, color optimization and correct file export for print and web.

In addition to the creation of high-impact images and the possibility of living an intense experience in the mountains, the real added value of the workshop will be to observe the’operational approach of professional photographers, including field strategies, approach techniques and ethical principles of nature photography, to acquire a solid and replicable method also in future photographic experiences.

February 6th

The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the reference facility, where we will begin with a brief presentation of the workshop and an introductory session dedicated to the basics of nature photography, with a particular focus on the fauna and environments of the Gran Paradiso National Park.

After free lunch we will move to Valsavarenche, one of the wildest and most authentic valleys in the Park, the ideal setting to immediately immerse yourself in the experience. Here we will begin the first photography session of the afternoon, exploring habitats where it's possible to observe some of the area's most iconic species, such as ibex, chamois, foxes, golden eagles, and bearded vultures, with the possibility, for the lucky ones, of even encountering a wolf. At the end of the session, we will return to the facility where a photo session will take place. post-production dedicated to optimizing the images created during the workshop. Dinner at the hotel.

February 7th

The day will start early with breakfast and the move towards Valnontey, in the Cogne Valley, an area characterized by splendid pine forests and particularly evocative photographic atmospheres, especially in the morning hours. Here we will focus mainly on the Alpine chamois, a species very common in this area and often observed in ideal settings for nature photography. After the morning session, we'll break for lunch and return to the hotel for a rest and review of the shots.

The destination for the final session will be chosen together based on sightings from the previous days and the best photographic opportunities at the time, with the aim of maximizing the chances of encountering the Park's iconic species.

Activities will end at sunset.
