The Gran Paradiso National Park extends over 70,000 hectares of high mountain territory, between 800 meters of valley floor and 4,061 meters of Gran Paradiso. The park extends over 4 valleys and occupies two regions. It is the oldest national park in Italy, established on December 3, 1922.
From a naturalistic point of view, it is one of the most interesting parks in Italy, with well 68 species of vertebrates including 52 mammals and 101 nesting birds.Among these the most significant is undoubtedly the ibex, symbol of the park, but besides him it is also possible to observe the Alpine chamois, fox, mountain hare, stoat and in recent years also the wolf. Among the birds, it is worth highlighting the presence of thegolden eagle and of the bearded vulture.
From a photographic point of view the park has no equal. The breathtaking environment, in full Alpine style, offers wonderful views and details. The great density of animals greatly stimulates photographic creativity, giving us the opportunity to experience truly unforgettable moments. In winter the park is completely covered in snow and ice. A silent and wild park that each of us should know.

The park offers breathtaking environments ideal for photography, especially in winter, when it is possible to observe and immortalise numerous species including ibex, alpine chamois, foxes, mountain hares, golden eagles and bearded vultures. A professional photographer will be at your side, sharing technical and nature experiences to optimize the use of your equipment and improve your photography skills.
During the day, we'll learn basic and advanced shooting techniques to get creative images. After sunset, we'll analyze the day's shots and make a complete post-production session to optimize files.
The objective is to provide participants with knowledge of biology and photography, to practice this passion with respect for nature and with adequate technical skills to take excellent photos in any situation. It will be an intense and engaging experience, which will make you discover a new dimension of nature photography.
The photo sessions will take place at morning and sunset, mainly with itinerant photography activities, led by two professional photographers.
We will explore the most iconic places in the Park, immersing us in an experience in harmony with nature. The intense days will keep us in the field from dawn to dusk, with practical sessions on basic and advanced shooting techniques to achieve creative and unique images.
Obviously, as in every workshop, we will dedicate part of the time to carry out a complete post-production lesson, to optimize each shot from noise reduction, contrast management, colors and export for print and web.
In addition to capturing beautiful photographs and having an unforgettable experience, the focus of this workshop is to show the field approach of experienced professional photographers, revealing the secrets of stalking and nature photography.

The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the reference facility, where we will begin with a brief presentation of the workshop and an introductory session dedicated to the basics of nature photography, with a particular focus on the fauna and environments of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
After free lunch we will move to Valsavarenche, one of the wildest and most authentic valleys in the Park, the ideal setting to immediately enter the heart of the experience.
Here we'll begin our first photo session of the afternoon, exploring habitats where we can observe some of the area's most iconic species, such as ibex, chamois, foxes, golden eagles, and bearded vultures. The lucky ones might even encounter a wolf.
At the end of the session, we'll return to the facility for dinner featuring typical local products and for an initial comparison of the shots taken.
The day will start early with breakfast and the move towards Valnontey, in the Cogne valley, an area characterised by splendid pine forests and particularly evocative photographic atmospheres, especially in the morning hours.
Here we will focus mainly on the Alpine chamois, a species very present in this area and often observable in environmental contexts ideal for nature photography.
After the morning session, we'll take a lunch break and return to the hotel for a rest and review of the shots, taking advantage of the central hours of the day, generally less favorable for light and animal activity, to discuss technique and composition.
In the afternoon we will return again to Valsavarenche, continuing the photographic work until sunset, in search of the valley's symbolic species and the best evening light conditions.
Dinner at the hotel and sharing of photos of the day.
After breakfast we will move to the valley of Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, an area particularly known for the presence of large ibex, including very old and large specimens that offer excellent photographic opportunities.
The morning session will be dedicated to observing and photographing these animals in an alpine environment, seeking lighting and composition that enhance the majesty of the species.
Again, during the central hours of the day, we'll take a lunch break and a rest period, useful for analyzing the shots taken and preparing photographic strategies for the next session.
In the afternoon we will continue with a new outing until sunset, then returning to the structure where a session will be held. post-production dedicated to optimizing the images created during the workshop.
Dinner at the hotel.
The final day will begin with breakfast and a final photo session, the destination of which will be chosen together based on the sightings of the previous days and the best photographic opportunities at the time. The goal is to maximize the chances of encountering the Park's iconic species, particularly ibex and chamois, in the areas that have yielded the most interesting results.
The photography activities will end around 11.00/11.30, with final greetings.
Over the course of the four days we will explore different areas of the Gran Paradiso National Park, maintaining a particular focus on Valsavarenche, one of the wildest and richest areas in fauna, where we will concentrate a large part of the photographic sessions to increase the chances of spotting the full spectrum of the most iconic alpine species.

Posti meravigliosi dove è stato possibile fotografare stambecchi, camosci, volpi avvicinandoci con rispetto ma garantendo ottime posizioni per lo scatto. Consiglierei a chiunque di fare workshop con loro.JOAQUIN FUENTES05/02/2024Michele and Sharon were the best hosts a photographer could ask for. They are two of my heroes and are some of the best wildlife photographers in the world. This was the trip of a lifetime! We had luxury accommodations and 5 star meals daily. Each photographer had our own row in the vehicles. Highly recommend booking with Michele through his official website if you’re interested in any type of wildlife photography tour. We had all advanced photographers on our trip, but I understand that all levels are welcome to join. What a fun group and experience! Note that the all inclusive photography experience actually cost much less than what you would have to pay on your own! It would have cost around twice as much to reserve the rooms, transfers and private vehicle for a week. I’m really looking forward to my next tour with Michele and Sharon!Josef Gelernter04/02/2024It was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience ! Extremely well organized and managed !
