Destination

The Gran Paradiso National Park extends over 70,000 hectares of high mountain territory, between 800 meters of valley floor and 4,061 meters of Gran Paradiso. The park extends over 4 valleys and occupies two regions. It is the oldest national park in Italy, established on December 3, 1922.

From a naturalistic point of view, it is one of the most interesting parks in Italy, with well 68 species of vertebrates including 52 mammals and 101 nesting birds.Among these the most significant is undoubtedly the ibex, symbol of the park, but besides him it is also possible to observe the Alpine chamois, fox, mountain hare, stoat and in recent years also the wolf. Among the birds, it is worth highlighting the presence of thegolden eagle and of the bearded vulture.

From a photographic point of view the park has no equal. The breathtaking environment, in full Alpine style, offers wonderful views and details. The great density of animals greatly stimulates photographic creativity, giving us the opportunity to experience truly unforgettable moments. In winter the park is completely covered in snow and ice. A silent and wild park that each of us should know.

Detailed plan

Find out how the days will unfold and which activities make up the experience

March 12

The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the reference facility, where we will begin with a brief presentation of the workshop and an introductory session dedicated to the basics of nature photography, with a particular focus on the fauna and environments of the Gran Paradiso National Park.

After free lunch we will move to Valsavarenche, one of the wildest and most authentic valleys in the Park, the ideal setting to immediately enter the heart of the experience.

Here we'll begin our first photo session of the afternoon, exploring habitats where we can observe some of the area's most iconic species, such as ibex, chamois, foxes, golden eagles, and bearded vultures. The lucky ones might even encounter a wolf.

At the end of the session, we'll return to the facility for dinner featuring typical local products and for an initial comparison of the shots taken.

March 13th

The day will start early with breakfast and the move towards Valnontey, in the Cogne valley, an area characterised by splendid pine forests and particularly evocative photographic atmospheres, especially in the morning hours.

Here we will focus mainly on the Alpine chamois, a species very present in this area and often observable in environmental contexts ideal for nature photography.

After the morning session, we'll take a lunch break and return to the hotel for a rest and review of the shots, taking advantage of the central hours of the day, generally less favorable for light and animal activity, to discuss technique and composition.

In the afternoon we will return again to Valsavarenche, continuing the photographic work until sunset, in search of the valley's symbolic species and the best evening light conditions.

Dinner at the hotel and sharing of photos of the day.

March 14th

After breakfast we will move to the valley of Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, an area particularly known for the presence of large ibex, including very old and large specimens that offer excellent photographic opportunities.

The morning session will be dedicated to observing and photographing these animals in an alpine environment, seeking lighting and composition that enhance the majesty of the species.

Again, during the central hours of the day, we'll take a lunch break and a rest period, useful for analyzing the shots taken and preparing photographic strategies for the next session.

In the afternoon we will continue with a new outing until sunset, then returning to the structure where a session will be held. post-production dedicated to optimizing the images created during the workshop.

Dinner at the hotel.

March 15th

The final day will begin with breakfast and a final photo session, the destination of which will be chosen together based on the sightings of the previous days and the best photographic opportunities at the time. The goal is to maximize the chances of encountering the Park's iconic species, particularly ibex and chamois, in the areas that have yielded the most interesting results.

The photography activities will end around 11.00/11.30, with final greetings.

Over the course of the four days we will explore different areas of the Gran Paradiso National Park, maintaining a particular focus on Valsavarenche, one of the wildest and richest areas in fauna, where we will concentrate a large part of the photographic sessions to increase the chances of spotting the full spectrum of the most iconic alpine species.
