Located less than 2 hours from Rome, the Monte Rufeno and Selva di Meana Nature Reserve extends along the border between Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. This exceptional area boasts a predominantly hilly landscape, a pristine forest and an almost surreal quiet.
These lands, rarely visited by tourists, offer a rich variety of wildlife. Here you can spot several species of mammals, including deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes and even the rare Apennine wolf. There is no shortage of small forest inhabitants such as badgers, porcupines and martens. In addition, the sky is animated by numerous species of avifauna, among which the peregrine falcon and the short-toed eagle stand out.
The atmosphere of Monte Rufeno is authentic and off the beaten track, creating an ideal environment for nature and photography lovers looking for unique and authentic experiences.

For all nature photography enthusiasts, October is an enchanted month, between the colours and sounds of the changing seasons, it is right here, when the breeding season of the deer is now over, that every nature lover dedicates himself to roar of the deer.
The Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, embracing the borders of Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany, is home to a variety of animal species, among which a thriving population of fallow deer (Dama dama) stands out.
Every year at this time, the woods resound with the vibrant roars of the males, known as “palanconi”.
Within small areas of the forest called “arenas”, we will have the privilege of observing and capturing photographs of these magnificent animals during their male challenges and courtship displays.
Inside the reserve, with a little luck we may also encounter roe deer, wild boars, foxes, badgers and the Apennine wolf.
The days will be intense, from dawn to dusk, completely immersing ourselves in this fantastic natural environment. To minimize any disturbance and maximize photographic opportunities, the group of participants will be kept small, with a maximum of 6 participants.
During the field sessions, we will explore both basic and advanced photography techniques, in order to create unique and creative images.
Our mission is to provide participants with an education in biology and photography, enabling them to cultivate this extraordinary passion with respect for nature and with the technical mastery to capture exceptional photographs in any situation.
This workshop is open to all those who love photography and nature. It is intended for both beginners who want to acquire valuable tips on the field, to improve their knowledge, and experts who want to spend two days in places full of photographic opportunities and capture high-quality shots.
During this experience, we recommend accommodation in a welcoming 3-star hotel located in a quiet Umbrian village, where we will take the theoretical lesson, where we will spend the night and eat typical Umbrian recipes.
A few minutes from Orvieto and the motorway exit, we will find ourselves in a silent green paradise, immersed in picturesque villages and a lush nature, ideal for wildlife watching. It will be a perfect balance between relaxation and hands-on learning.
