Bia\u0142owie\u017caThe Bialowieza Forest is a remnant of the virgin forest that stretched across the northeast of Poland and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. It is the only remaining fragment of the forest that stretched across Europe thousands of years ago.<\/p>\n
The forest extends for 879km2 mainly with vegetation typical of the temperate forest, consisting mainly of broadleaf trees that give the landscape a unique atmosphere.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>magical winter. But what is the heart of this trip is undoubtedly the wildlife, the forest in fact boasts an incredible biodiversity with 11864 species of animals including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. (260 species of birds, of which 240 reproduce in the forest) In particular, attention falls on the giant of Europe, the bison.<\/p>\n In Bialowieza we find the largest and most important population of European bison, an animal considered extinct in 1919 but included in a reintroduction project that has currently resulted in a stable population of about 5,000 specimens. The bison, with its 3 meters in length, its 2 meters in height and its weight that can reach almost a thousand kilograms, is the largest land mammal in Europe.
